Exhibit on Eudora Welty opening March 15
The Ocean Springs Library will host “Welty,” a traveling exhibit of photos taken by Eudora Welty.
The photos were taken during during her time with the Works Progress Administration, the WPA employed job seekers to carry out public works projects during the Great Depression.
She took photos to show Mississippi’s rural poor and the effects the Great Depression had on the state.
A little background on Welty, she was born in Jackson, Mississippi and wrote about the south.
Honors she received include the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction, also being awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Jimmy Carter.
The exhibit is opening on Friday, March 15th at 5 PM.
Mississippi writer Richelle Putnam will start the exhibit with a presentation on Welty.
Food and refreshments will be provided as well.
