Exhibit at Ohr O’Keefe Focues on Vintage Toys of the Past

In this age of video games and DVDs, we often forget how kids of yester year amused themselves. A new exhibit at the Ohr O’Keefe Museum of Art arrives just in time for Christmas to remind kids of the Golden Age of toys.

The Art of Toys exhibit dusts the cobwebs off dozens of toys and displays them to bring joy to new kids and fond memories to bigger kids. The collection features many recognizable characters, including Felix the Cat, Popeye, and Mickey Mouse. These toys range in date from the 1920s to the 1960s, and their simple design may confuse kids from the electronic age.

Kevin O’Brien, Executive Director of the Ohr O’Keefe Museum, says, “When kids come and look at these things today, they’re thinking, ‘Well how does it work?’ As if you could have some sort of interactive thing happening. The interaction with these toys happened in your head and you had to animate them and make them do things, and it’s a little bit different from the toys of today where the kids, they actually go into the world of the toy. Here, you had to make that world yourself.”

The exhibit will continue until late February and is free with admission to the museum.
