Evacuation plans during hurricane season

The Mississippi Department of Transportation shared information for residents evacuating during hurricane season.

First, MDOT says to establish an evacuation plan and route including having a meeting location with family in case you are separated.

MDOT is also advising all residents to shut off utilities and propane tanks, unplug appliances, and electronics ahead of leaving your home.

Tune into emergency officials and stay as inland as you can.

MDOT says go to a shelter only as a last resort.
