Escaped inmate captured in Perry County

The search has ended for a South Mississippi inmate who escaped from a work detail.

According to the Mississippi Department of Corrections, 39-year-old Corey Lee Alred was captured this afternoon near Wendell Road in Perry County.

Alred was serving a nine year sentence at the South Mississippi Correctional Institution after a conviction in 2015 on a burglary charge in Tallahatchie County.
