Escaped convict captured in Jackson County Saturday

Convicted killer Michael Wilson is back in custody after three days of being on the run in South Mississippi.

The calls came in and on Saturday night around 6 p.m. Michael Wilson was finally put back in handcuffs. Jackson County Sheriff Mike Ezell said, “We all came together, worked hard together at the case and made it happen. It’s been a long couple of days for everybody.”

Sheriff Ezell tells News 25 Pretty Boy Floyd was taken to the St. Martin substation shortly after he was captured for questioning. Sheriff Ezell tells News 25 they got very little information from Wilson on where he had been and what he had been doing the past three days. He put up no resistance when law enforcement found him.

Neighbors say he was found in a house on Sunnyside Drive in St. Martin. Resident Seth Whittington said, “We came outside. We were kinda just watching what was going on then I see someone being hauled to the police car which was kinda in front of my house in shackles. I had a feeling it was maybe the guy. I feel much better now that he is captured there’s no doubt about that. I just never thought it would have been here to be honest with you.”

Sheriff Ezell tells News 25 authorities were able to find Wilson near the area of Sunnyside Drive and Palfrey Road due to the tips that were called into the station. “It was one of numerous calls where people described him and the questions he was asking the person. He wanted to borrow a shirt, he wanted some sunglasses. So, that was a pretty dead giveaway right there.”

Sheriff Ezell says he doesn’t know the exact facility Wilson will be placed, but he highly doubts he will be back in Leakesville. He expects many investigations to follow this incident into how he escaped and to hopefully set up a timeline of when he was on the streets. “None of us are immune in the criminal justice system from having a misstep. Anytime something like this happens you have to take a hard look at yourself and what you’re doing in your organization,” said Sheriff Ezell.
