Engine fire breaks out on Ship Island Ferry

Captain Pete

GULFPORT, Miss. (WXXV)- An engine fire broke out aboard the Capt. Pete Ferry this morning during a regularly scheduled Ship Island Excursions trip.

Gulfport Fire Chief Billy Kelley tells us the fire started in the engine room, but crew members were able to quickly get it under control using an ABC fire extinguisher.

The ferry returned safely to shore where all 55 people on board disembarked.

Passengers then transferred to the Gulf Islander, which continued the trip to Ship Island. No injuries were reported.
