Emmett Till Rally in Jackson

Relatives of Emmett Till were at the capitol today in Jackson.
Till’s family wants an apology from Carolyn Bryant Donham. She reportedly confessed to author Timothy B. Tyson that she lied about the encounter with the 14-year-old in her Money Mississippi store.
In 1955, she accused Till of violently attacking her in her husband’s convenience store. She claimed the teen grabbed her and made crude statements. Her husband, Roy Bryant, and a friend, John Milam, beat, disfigured, mutilated and killed Till. They then sunk his body to the bottom of the Tallahatchie River.
Today relatives, state officials, and others held a rally seeking justice. Family member Airicka Gordon-Taylor said, “Emmett didn’t deserve this, as a community we didn’t deserve this. We’re not going to sit back and let Carolyn Bryant get away with this. We want justice. We don’t want immunity. They are talking about she’s too old, put a rocking chair in a cell, give her some yarn and needles and let her rock in her chair. We deserve justice as a family.”
The Till family is appealing to the attorney general and governor to file charges against Bryant-Donham.
