EMA begins preparations for upcoming hurricane season
We’re just over a month away from hurricane season and Governor Reeves has named April 30th through May 6th Hurricane Preparedness Week.
Hurricane season starts June 1st and emergency management agencies are starting their preparations and they advise you to do the same.
Each day next week, these agencies will be posting a guide to prepare for emergencies. This includes everything from knowing your risks to evacuations. You’ll see important supplies such as a NOAA radio and how to sign up for emergency alerts.
Harrison County Emergency Management is also starting its preparations for the season to keep you safe in the case of an emergency. EMA Director Matt Stratton said, “We’re having meetings with our first responders, with our non-profit partners, local governments, both city and county, and doing a lot of coordination at this time to make sure that we’re all on the same page and working together as one team to help our communities in time of disaster.”
Harrison County residents can sign up for text alerts by texting ‘HARCO INFO’ to 99411. Residents of other counties should sign up for emergency alerts with their city.
