Elks Parade first in line in Ocean Springs Saturday
The Elks Parade was first in line for the Saturday events in Ocean Springs, ringing in Carnival Season with a thundering celebration.
As is tradition, police motorcycles led the procession. The Elks Lodge is a non-political fraternity spending more than $80 million each year to benefit special needs programs, athletic teams, and more.
Elks Lodge member H.L. Robertson compares the celebrations to a massive block party, but Ocean Springs rarely needs an excuse to have a good time. “Well, it’s good for the downtown community. Businesses downtown, restaurants, bars, they’re getting good business these days. So, it’s kind of a social promotion we do for the city. We started it and we’re still doing it today. And we’ve got 68 units signed up for today’s parade. It’s looking like a gorgeous day — a lot of partying going on.”
This was the parade’s 46th year in Ocean Springs.
