Elementary School Election
The presidential election is not the only race coming to a close soon.
Students from three Gautier elementary schools have been running their own election all semester. Students in the gifted program have hosted debates, provided fundraising mechanisms for their campaigns, and had help from campaign managers.
The teachers want the kids to learn every aspect of the election process, which they say is vital knowledge for their future.
Presidential candidate Lydia-Kate Jordan said, “It is very tiring and like you have to put a lot of effort into it and work and also you can’t just make a speech in one second and be done.”
Presidential candidate Oliver Everson said, “I feel like the candidates don’t always say what they mean. They just say it because they’re frustrated and they can’t think about it.”
Both high schools, the middle school, and the fifth and sixth grade academy students watched the debates and get to participate in the vote.
The winner will be announced next Friday.
