Eighth grader arrested for bringing gun to school

An 8th grade student is in police custody after bringing a loaded gun to school today.

According to the Gulfport Police Department, a 14-year-old boy also brought more than 100 rounds of ammunition, extra magazines, and a mask to North Gulfport 7th and 8th Grade School.”

Around 12:30 this afternoon, a Gulfport police school resource officer was notified by the principal that a student was in possession of a firearm. The student was arrested and charged with possession of a weapon by a student. The child reportedly obtained the gun from a relative’s house. It is not known why the child brought it to school. After booking the juvenile was transported to the youth detention facility pending a family court hearing.
