Who is egging houses in Long Beach?
Prom season is quickly approaching sometimes a time when authorities see a rise in student mischief and high school pranks. One prank has gone a little too far in Long Beach lately and neighbors aren’t happy about it.
Old East Pass Road in Long Beach is a neighborhood where children are at play, but it’s what they may be doing after dark that’s causing concerns. Long Beach resident Joann Duvic said, “People letting their children run wild. The families don’t know where they are at at night and it’s just a bad situation.”
A neighbor waking up to her house getting egged took her thoughts to Facebook Wednesday, a stunt that nearby residents don’t find surprising. Long Beach resident Mark Cruthirds tells News 25 he’s had his car egged. “I noticed it the very next morning. I took soap and water and washed it off because if it stays on its going to peel the paint back. It’s going to eat through the finish.”
Old Pass Road is where Long Beach High School is located. Cruthirds says that may have something to do with why the houses have become a target for mischief. “Kids being kids, but the egg part is something that damages people’s property.”
Other neighbors like Joann Duvic agree. “During football season they throw toilet paper and that’s an old tradition, but I don’t think egging is any good because of the fact that it takes the paint off your car, it takes the paint off your house.”
Authorities say that the damages from throwing an egg can land you in a mess of trouble. Lt. Ken Lassabe said, “That would be considered malicious mischief, which is a crime. If you mess up a paint job, you’re talking about thousands of dollars on some vehicles. It could be very serious consequences.”
Police say if damages exceed a thousand dollars an egging prank could cost you a felony charge.
