EdBuild Reports Initial Thoughts on Mississippi’s Education Funding Formula

An education consultant says Mississippi should change the base student cost in its school funding formula.
Officials with EdBuild presented to lawmakers for the first time Thursday in Jackson. Legislative leaders hired the company to suggest changes to the Mississippi Adequate Education Program. In their initial presentation, EdBuild officials said a funding formula should provide resources for students to achieve based on their unique needs including supplements for special education students.
EdBuild is expected to make recommendations before the legislative session starts in January.
