The East Biloxi Community collaborative partnered with the Mental Health Association of South Mississippi to host their second mental health first aid training.

This event gave community members free training on how to recognize mental health symptoms and how to properly react to them.
Participants who complete the 8 hour session receive a three year national certification from the Mental Health Association to show they have participated and are properly trained.
A total of about 25 people participated in either the first session held in November or this session.
The EBCC’s next event will be a Mind and Body Wellness Expo on December 11th.

East Biloxi Community Collaborative Program Director Jakavious Pickett said, “It’s important that we build a team concept. You know, we once lived by the village principle where they say it takes an entire village to raise children. Well, I believe now we still need to implement this village principle where it takes the entire community to help the community. If our communities are going to get better, we just can’t depend on one set of people. We have to depend on everybody.”

The Mind and Body Wellness Expo will be at the Gruich Community Center from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will host family-friendly activities as well as a variety of vendors.
