EASTER BASKETS FOR THE NEEDY

If you know of a family in South Mississippi, who might need a little extra help getting the Easter bunny to their home this year, you may be in luck. Two-hundred kids in need will have Easter baskets to wake up to Sunday, thanks to Gulfport woman, Lanie Spears, and downstage productions theatre. What started out as 25 baskets five years ago has now grown to 200. Each basket is filled with candy and treats, like coloring books and bubbles… And adorned with a special butterfly in honor of Sophia Myers. Several of the baskets are reserved for the Harrison County children’s shelter, and the rest will go to the community.
Downstage Productions Senior Board Member, Stacey Barefoot says, ” Part of our mission is to give back to the community for supporting the arts in the community. Christmas time, we have a lot of donations and things that come, but Easter morning some kids don’t get baskets and treats and you know, little stuffed animals or coloring books like we’re doing so, it’s just a great thing for her to want to give back to the community.”
The baskets will be available to pick up on Saturday at downstage productions theatre in Gulfport starting at 2pm. If you know someone in need who would like to reserve a basket, you can email Lanie Spears at spears.lanie@gmail.com.
