East Central softball wins 2025 MHSAA 5A State Championship

HATTIESBURG, Miss (WXXV) — The East Central Lady Hornets are officially the MHSAA Softball State Champions for the 5A class!

The Lady Hornets swept Lafayette — winning 10-3 on Tuesday and 10-6 on Wednesday — to claim their first title since 2013.

Abby Danis was named the Most Valuable Player for the 5A championship series. Danis pitched a complete first game and came in to close out the second game. She also blasted a three-run home run in the fifth inning of Wednesday’s contest.

This was the first championship for head coach Gerald Edmonson, and it sent seniors Breyona Tanner, Chloe Sheppard, Kailee Lawson and Abbie Huff out on a high note after their years of hard work for the program.
