Earth Day celebrations come to the Mary C.

Saturday, the Mary C. O’Keefe Cultural Arts Center enjoyed an Earth Day celebration on its front lawn with plenty of visitors turning out to hear speakers and get educated.

Lectures covered a broad range of topics from bat conservation to microplastics.

The Ocean Springs Environmental Alliance put on the event, inviting educators from the Mississippi State Extension and Southern Miss.

The Pascagoula River Audubon Center and National Park Service were also among the guests. Earth Day at Mary C. Co-Chair Harriet Perry said, “I think there’s a big interest now in looking at recycling and how to live a cleaner, less intrusive lifestyle on Mother Nature. So, there are a lot of groups here that are working to make that happen and would love to talk to you. And again — activities really designed for children.”

City workers were there ahead of the celebration, making sure the lawn was vibrant in time for Earth Day.
