Early morning fire destroys two Hancock County homes
Multiple homeowners in Hancock County are picking up the pieces following an early morning fire that left two homes destroyed.
Crews were called to the 6000 block of Kiowa Street in the Jourdan River Shores neighborhood around 6:30 Monday morning.
The fire originated in a home that was unoccupied due to the residents being out of town. It then spread to a neighbor’s home where one woman was reportedly staying.
The fire damaged two nearby jet skis and a truck. Flames also scorched the side walls of houses on each side of the blaze.
Jourdan River Property Association Vice President John Rogers described the chaos of the scene as he walked out of his house this morning.
“There was people all over the place,” Rogers said. “There was fire departments from Fenton — I had to look Fenton up to find out where it was — and they were here. Diamondhead Fire Department was here. There was firetrucks and ambulances, firemen all up and down the street.”
Thankfully, there were no human fatalities in the fire.
