Eagles under the Oaks Charity Golf Tournament in support of Combat Wounded Veterans of South Mississippi

144 golfers from across the Coast played 18 holes today at the Oaks in Pass Christian to help support veterans in South Mississippi.

For the tenth year, Keesler Federal Credit Union and the Oaks Golf Club put on a charity golf tournament benefiting Combat Wounded Veterans of South Mississippi.

Thirty-eight teams participated in the tournament and raised over $52,000 in the process.

The money raised goes towards helping veterans with emergency funding that can be used for anything from electric bills to mortgages to gas while they wait for their benefits to come in. Combat Wounded Veterans of South Mississippi Executive Director Roger Sibley said, “The golfers here at this event, some of them have been here every year. It’s amazing. Sure, they come out to golf and that’s fine, a day of golf, but the bigger point is that they’re making a donation and changing the lives of people that they’ll probably never meet. They’ll never know the impact of the money and the donations from this golf tournament has on these families.”

Because of this annual event, Combat Wounded veterans has never had to turn away a veteran that has asked for help.
