E.R. staff on Biloxi train and bus accident
When tragedy strikes, there are critical moments to treat those who are wounded. Doctors and nurses know that at any moment they could be overwhelmed with an influx of patients needing emergency treatment. This was the case for the E.R. at Garden Park Medical Center in Gulfport right after a train collided with a charter bus in Biloxi yesterday.
Garden Park emergency staff tells News 25 they were alerted by AMR shortly after the accident to be ready for a mass influx of patients needing emergency attention. Garden Park received three total patients, two in serious condition.
The medical team says when incidents like this happen the whole hospital gets involved. Physician Assistant Lee Stork said, “We send out a code triage standby. That alerts all members of the hospital on the floors, the E.R., radiology lab, that we may possibly be getting some causalities to this hospital.”
R.N. Amy Carter said, “I don’t think that we could have asked for a better crew. Everybody came together and worked as a team. Every department participated.”
E.R. staff at Garden Park says two patients are still in their care and are improving. They tell us quarterly training for mass casualty events helps them stay prepared for emergencies like yesterday’s crash.
