‘E-L-D or Me’ protests nationwide

Today, 18-wheeler owner/operators across the United States are gathering to defend the source of their livelihood against mandatory implementation of electronic logging devices or an E-L-D.
An E-L-D is linked to the computer that monitors and controls certain engine parameters in a truck. Once drivers reach a daily time limit, their rigs would be shutdown automatically.
The mandate is meant to improve highway safety, but many truckers say it caters to major freight corporations and will crush those on the owner/operator side of the industry while driving up prices for consumers.
‘E-L-D or Me’ National Spokesperson Charles Claburn said, “The electronic logging device is going to infringe on our constitutional rights. It’s going to cause adverse safety affects, economical impact, and national security issues and the government is not talking about it or letting the public know what’s going on. So, we assembled people across the country today to do this. What right do they have to make people who own their own property install this device and pay for this device because the government mandates it. Again, this is all focused around big money and mega carriers. They want to push the little guy out of business.”
Congressman Brian Babin of Texas has introduced Bill HR3282 in an effort to delay the mandate, but the bill is still sitting in committee at this time.
