Dump truck knocks out power in Gulfport

Dozens of homes are without electricity after a dump truck pulled down a power line in Gulfport.
The truck was unloading materials near 28th Street and Hewes Avenue when the driver went too far and collided with a nearby power pole. Police blocked off the area between 26th ½ Street to Tennessee Street as crews worked to repair the problem.
The effects of the damage forced some nearby residents to evacuate their home. 28th Street Resident Emma Hall said, “When the lights went off, then my husband’s motorized chair went off. We used that motorized chair to adjust himself getting up. This hadn’t happened before and it is a struggle. I had to get someone to come and lift him.”
Gulfport police tell News 25 no one was injured during the incident.
