DUI causing death conviction
After a three day trial, a Long Beach woman was found guilty of a felony DUI and killing her passenger after a night out at a Diamondhead bar.
On November 14, 2014, 21-year-old Kaleigh Ann Dartez was involved in an accident on Kiln-Delisle Road. During trial, investigators and prosecutors laid out what happened.
Surveillance footage and other acquaintances’ testimonies prove Dartez left the bar to take her male friend home. An accident reconstructionist testified that Dartez’s car crossed into the opposite lane of travel, attempted to correct itself, but overcorrected causing the car to flip. The passenger was likely ejected from the car and died of a broken neck.
Dartez had a blood alcohol level almost three times the legal limit. She will be sentenced Monday.
