Driver escapes car on fire in Biloxi
No one is hurt after a convertible went up in flames on the interstate in Biloxi this morning.
A driver going eastbound on I10 had to pull over and escape his car when the vehicle’s engine caught fire near the I-110 exit. Another driver in the westbound lane saw the burning car from across the median and called 911.
Before Biloxi firefighters rushed to the scene and extinguished the flames, Mark Hopkins, the driver that dialed 911, pulled over to make sure no one needed immediate help. News 25 caught up with him. “A lot of smoke, a lot of fire coming out of that. The response time for Biloxi PD and Biloxi Fire was about two minutes. They were quick. They were on it, but you know his vehicle is over 25 years old so no fault of his own. He just topped off his vehicle not even two exits back.”
The car that caught fire was a Mazda Miata. The Biloxi Fire Department put out the blaze around 11 a.m.
