Drive-thru immunization fair took place in Biloxi today

Today was the last drive-thru immunization fair for new or returning students along the Coast.

This was the last of a series of drive-thru fairs and last chance to get compliance forms and shots before school starts. These immunization fairs were free, all parents needed to provide was their ID, child’s shot records, and insurance card.

Mississippi law requires children be immunized against childhood disease to enter public or private school, head start, or day care.

Coastal Family Health Center’s Pediatric Clinic, along with Biloxi Excel by Five and the Biloxi School District, partnered up for the fifth annual fair.

This program was started five years ago to make it more convenient for parents to get shots and compliance forms for their children. Biloxi Excel by Five Certification Manager Susan Hunt said, “I’m a former school principal and being able to reach out and help people and help children, it’s very important to me. I’m a member of this community, been here, born and raised here. So, anything we can do to help our parents and our children.”

Nurse Practitioner Angelica Trieu said, “It’s amazing and it makes me feel good because this is what I do every day and being able to provide this service to families, it’s a convenience for them.”

While they had to cancel two of the fairs in the past because of bad weather, they carried on today despite the conditions because this is their last chance before school starts.
