Drew Brees triumphant in week eight return

If there were any concerns about the New Orleans Saints bringing Drew Brees back too early prior to their 31-9 victory over the Arizona Cardinals in week eight, the NFL’s all-time leading passer quickly proved the risk was well worth the reward.

Despite coming back from right thumb surgery, two weeks earlier than originally expected, Brees proceeded to throw for more yards than any Saints quarterback had all season, including himself.

He picked up right where he left off with those 373 yards and three second half touchdowns, giving new life to a Saints team that was already 5-0 under Teddy Bridgewater.

Factor in a defense that held opponents to 10 points or less and three second half touchdowns during that stretch and it’s safe to say Brees came back at the perfect time after all. “Felt good, it felt really good. Obviously, the last five weeks have been tough just rehabbing, just trying to get healthy again. But I felt like early on there was a lot of excitement and maybe shaking the rust off a little bit. But I love the game. I love being out there with my teammates.”

Brees’ 373 yards were his highest passing total since week three of last season. The Saints get to rest up on their week nine bye before hosting the Atlanta Falcons in week 10.
