Drew Brees breaks NFL all-time passing mark

They say records are made to be broken especially when New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees is the one breaking them.

Last night, the future Hall of Famer needed just 201 yards passing to eclipse Peyton Manning’s all-time mark in a prime time match-up versus the Redskins.

Since 2014, Brees has thrown for more than 200 yards in all but two games.

The Saints would run away with this one 43-19.

Step aside Peyton Manning, Drew Brees is the NFL’s new patron saint of passing yards. In what was truly a ‘where were you when’ kind of moment, Brees was mobbed by his teammates at midfield and later shared an embrace with head coach Sean Payton in celebration of what would have never seemed possible when those two got together in 2006. 12 years later, it’s 72,103 and counting. “Didn’t know it was going to happen on the first play to Tre’Quan, but I don’t think it could have happened in any better fashion than it did. And to have in that moment with my teammates on the field, the offensive line, I mean it just played out even greater than I ever could have imagined,” said Brees.

Wide receiver Tre’Quan Smith said, “I didn’t expect to get the ball cause we ran the same play again and Cam, Cam Meredith had gotten the ball that time. But this time he threw it to me so I wasn’t expecting it, and when I saw it coming to me I did everything I could just to catch it and not drop it.”

Tight end Benjamin Watson said, “You see guys here that were a part of it. One thing he said after the game, he just said everyone was a part of it. And I think that’s what guys appreciate his greatness, they also appreciate his humility and his willingness to share the wealth and to share some of that honor with all of us.”

“When something like this happens and there’s so many people that were responsible for that, that can be a part of that, that makes me happy. It makes me proud and it makes me extremely grateful.”

Head Coach Sean Payton said, “All the actual hardware, the different bats and those all get dust but it’s about these memories right now. With someone like that as special as that is and what he’s accomplished, that’s what you miss when it’s done.”

Next up for Brees is the 500 touchdown club with the future Hall of Famer sitting on 499 heading into the week six bye. That gives Brees extra time to appreciate having now thrown for nearly 41 miles throughout the course of his record setting career.
