Dragon Boat Festival taking place at the Dock in Gulfport
How fast can you paddle? Find out during this year’s Dragon Boat races.
The popular United Way fundraiser is back for its seventh year. Teams race in 46-foot long boats to the finish line in various heats.
Teams consist of 20 paddlers, a cox who steers the dragon boat from the rear and a drummer who sits at the front.
All the funds raised support United Way of South Mississippi and the four counties they serve. CEO Kathy Springer says it is important for the United Way to be present in the communities they serve.
Raising funds through events like the Dragon Boat races is one way of doing so. “We’re there to answer the phone every day when people need help. We are staffed with local people. We are governed by local board. Every thing we do is laser focused right here on South Mississippi.”
The Dragon Festival is happening at the Dock on Seaway Road in Gulfport on Friday, April 29th and Saturday, April 30th.
The festival will also feature live entertainment, a crawfish boil, activities for children and other fun.
