Dr. Robert Taylor introduced as new State Superintendent
The State Board of Education has named a North Carolina educator and Mississippi native as the next state superintendent.
The department announced Dr. Robert Taylor as the new leader of Mississippi’s 140 public school districts. His appointment ends a monthslong search after former superintendent Carey Wright stepped down from the position in June.
Dr. Taylor was most recently a deputy state superintendent for the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
A Zoom conference was held today for media to get to know the new superintendent. “As far as parents are concerned, I want them to know that they can trust that when they send their children to school, that we’re going to do our level best to educate children. I certainly believe that parents are the first teachers, they should have the loudest voice as it relates to how their children are educated.”
Dr. Taylor will start the position in late January 2023, according to the Department of Education.
