Dr. Raymunda Barnes steps into new role with PRCC

The Hancock County campus of Pearl River Community College has a new vice president and his appointment comes at a time of big growth for the college and its campuses.

Dr. Raymunda Barnes is a Biloxi native and has been with PRCC for the past 15 years in a variety of roles.

The Hancock campus offers an array of courses from general education classes to technical classes in nursing, welding, and coding, among others.

With PRCC receiving a new $1.7 million grant from Accelerate MS for technical programs, part of that money will be earmarked for the Hancock campus for a commercial truck driving program, something that Dr. Barnes says will help better serve all of the communities of Hancock County and beyond. “The community college, specifically Pearl River, we are like a one-stop shop that can help those people get jobs, that can change generations, can change families, and change the whole family dynamic. And that’s our goal.”

As he settles into his new role, Dr. Barnes says he will strive to make sure the Hancock County campus remains a convenient and quality educational option for students in the county and other surrounding communities in South Mississippi and Louisiana.
