Downstage Production Theatre receives MAC Grant

Downstage Production Theatre in Gulfport received a new grant to help produce their 2022 fall show.

The theatre announced on Facebook Monday they received a $3,600 grant from the Mississippi Commission and National Endowment for the Arts.

The money from the grant will primarily go towards funding the theatre’s 2022 fall show, ‘Tarzan.’

This is the theatre’s first time receiving a grant from the Mississippi Arts Commission.

Downstage Grant Writer Katherine Carr says she couldn’t be happier with the grant and plans to apply for the MAC Grant again in the future. “We were thrilled when we got the news that we would be receiving this grant from MAC. This is our first time receiving a grant from MAC so we weren’t really sure how the process was gonna be, but they were very understanding. They were very helpful to us as we were going through the application process.”

The theatre plans to use any leftover money from the grant to help put on Christmas plays this holiday season.
