Double-A South going back to Southern League
The last time the Biloxi Shuckers played in the Southern League there were ten teams. Now down to just eight, but still back to the basics nonetheless.
Today, Minor League Baseball announced the return of historical names for the 11 leagues making up for the farm system for all 30 Major League teams.
The last time the Shuckers played in the Southern League was 2019 followed by a canceled 2020 season due to COVID-19 and a 2021 campaign in which the leagues had regional names while the rights to the other names were being acquired by MLB.
Founded in 1885, the Southern League has produced players such as Hank Aaron, Nolan Ryan, Max Scherzer, Javier Baez, and even Michael Jordan.
Joining the Shuckers are the Birmingham Barons, Chattanooga Lookouts, Mississippi Braves, Montgomery Biscuits, Pensacola Blue Wahoos, Rocket City Trash Pandas, and Tennessee Smokies.
