Donations for earthquake relief can be made through Salvation Army

The Salvation Army Kroc Center needs your help to provide relief to Turkey and Northern Syria.

As of today, the 7.8 magnitude earthquake has claimed the lives of more than 22,000 people.

Rescue workers have saved thousands of survivors and are still digging through rubble for more in below freezing temperatures.

The earthquake also caused a food shortage and has left survivors without shelter and power.

Survivors have been huddling together in cars and using debris for bonfires in hopes of staying warm.

Morgan Shiyou of the Salvation Army’s Kroc Center said people on the Coast understand the devastation natural disasters can cause. “It’s just such a devastating event that happened. Here on the Gulf Coast, we know what that devastation feels like, especially with Hurricane Katrina and other natural disasters that happen here so frequently. We understand one hundred percent what that emotional toll feels like.”
