Domestic Violence Awareness Walk

It is ‘Domestic Violence Awareness Month’ and that means shining a light on healthy ways to stop relationship abuse.

That’s just what the Women’s Resource and Empowerment Center and the Faith Tabernacle of Praise Church are hoping to do with the second annual Domestic Violence Awareness Walk.

Things kick off Saturday, October 26th, with registration at 7 a.m. and costs $15. The walk begins at 8 a.m.

The inspiration this year is Miss Gabrielle Reed. She lost her life to domestic violence in 2004 and now her mom, Janice, is working to keep her memory alive and help others. “We just want to make sure that everybody’s aware on the Coast that this is prevalent, that this is something that we need to take care of in our own way. Just provide that information and maybe save a life and maybe save someone from having to go through what my family had to go through. I think my daughter Gabrielle would love that.”

Sandy Sanders with the Women Resource and Empowerment Center said, “We want you to walk in solidarity and in memory of Miss Gabrielle ‘Gabby’ Reed. So, if people are saying listen, I don’t have that $15, we want you to show up anyway.”
