Dolly Parton lends her talents to benefit concert in Philadelphia, Miss.
Country music legend Marty Stuart is taking a big step forward in his quest to bring the Congress of Country Music to life.
The Philadelphia, Mississippi, native has long had a dream of bringing a museum and entertainment venue to his hometown.
The first phase, renovating the historic Ellis Theater, is complete.
Now, Dolly Parton is adding her superstar status to the effort — performing two benefit concerts Saturday at the Ellis.
Tickets, ranging from $35 to watch on a big screen outside to $3,500 for front row seats — will help raise money for the Congress building.
Stuart said it didn’t take much to get Dolly on board.
“It didn’t take but just a minute and she was all about coming down,” Stuart said. “And she wanted to do it as a fundraiser, she wanted to do two shows and spend the day in Philadelphia and do what she’s about to do.”
Stuart said he hopes to break ground on the next phase in early 2024, with the project taking about 18 months to complete.
