Dobson accuses Moran of deceiving the public
Tension between mayoral candidates over missing campaign signs continues in Ocean Springs.
Today in a press conference, mayoral candidate Shea Dobson accused incumbent Mayor Connie Moran of deceiving the public when she claimed she filed a police report over stolen campaign signs. He says it was an effort to slander him and his supporters. Dobson claims public records request shows no police report was made until after his request was filed.
Mayor Connie Moran says she contacted the Ocean Springs police chief as soon as she noticed the signs were stolen with a formal report following several eyewitness accounts. She calls Dobson’s accusations absurd.
“She knows that I’m a political newcomer and what she probably thought is I was just going to back down and not respond to what she had to say and that she could intimidate me from speaking out about her record of deceiving the public, of not showing up for work, working part time hours and really putting the city at risk,” said Dobson.
Mayor Moran said, “On Thursday, April 27th, I filed a formal report which I even had to add on to as more evidence came clear, so that’s all that I did. I never once said my opponent was responsible for stealing them, so could someone please explain to me what the issue is.”
The Ocean Springs mayoral race will be decided in the general election June 6th.
