Do you know the history of statue located at Twelve Oaks Nature Preserve?

In Ocean Springs, behind the Hancock Whitney Bank on Hwy 90, a gravel road will take you to the Twelve Oaks Nature Preserve.

Greeting you at the gate is an old statue. FACE, the Friends of Art, Culture, and Education, is inquiring about the history of the statue so they can relocate it.

The preserve is three acres on Old Fort Bayou and has a walking trail, 12 huge live oak trees, and an old home where FACE holds their art classes.

The property is open to the public from dawn to dusk.

If you’re planning a visit to enjoy the beautiful oak trees, don’t forget to take a look at the statue and reach out to FACE if she looks familiar. Sara Guice with the Land Trust Coastal Mississippi Plain said, “Unfortunately, out here where she is, as much as we try to take care of her, she gets knocked down a lot. We would like to find a way to move her closer to the house and find a way to celebrate her and people can see her more. So, we know the history and can explain who she is to people.”

If you know the origin of the statue, reach out to FACE on Facebook or on Instagram @thefriendsoface.
