DMR Makes Chase Honorary Officer
The Department of Marine Resources visited the Biloxi Small Craft Harbor today to deliver a special gift.
Chase Thompson has a rare genetic disorder and doctors said he would never live past the age of eight. Now Chase is 21-years-old and loves fishing and being on the water.
When a local store denied giving him his own fishing license, DMR decided to give him his own personal fishing license and make him part of the DMR as an honorary officer. Chief of Marine Patrol Keith Davis said, “This idea came to me from one of my officers, Officer Barren O’Grady. When he asked me about the opportunity, we jumped at that opportunity to be a part of this young man’s life. We’re going to follow him. We’re going to follow his fishing trips.”
Chase’s cousin Tanner Boney said, “He has a disease and he never gives up. He’s kind of like a, I don’t know what the word for it is, but I look up to him a lot.”
Chase’s boat is even named after him. It’s called Chase N Dreams.
Chase’s father tells News 25 today was a great day for his son.
