[Disturbing images] Dolphin death under investigation

A dead dolphin found washed up on Deer Island last Tuesday is being investigated.

According to Moby Solangi with the Institute for Marine Mammal Studies, the dolphin was severely decomposed when found last week. Following a necropsy, they found the dolphin had just eaten shrimp, not a typical diet for a dolphin.

Because of this, Solangi believes the animal could have been following too close to a shrimp boat. “We watch these animals for various reasons. Most of them are natural deaths, but others are resulting from human interaction. Our job is to figure out what caused the death.”

Solangi tells News 25 there was no indication of direct human interaction with the dolphin.
