Disconnected K9’s Frisbee Team
Gulf Island Waterpark in Gulfport decided to let the dogs out with the Disconnected K9’s Show.
A game of fetch with a Frisbee and a dog is pretty common. However, people at Gulf Islands Waterpark in Gulfport have never seen anything like this. Dog trainer Lawrence Frederick said, “We have the top Frisbee dogs in the world. Each show is 30 minutes long. We are actually here through July 4th so if you want to see some of the best acrobatic and best Frisbee dogs on the planet, come to the waterpark.”
The Disconnected K9’s team is known internationally. There are five different disc dog champions, wowing the crowd with jaw dropping tricks. Spectator Zoey Rojas said, “The coolest part is when they got to jump off the back and catch the Frisbee.”
Spectator Joey Rojas said, “I liked when the dog ran out and caught all three Frisbees.”
“They’ll vault off my back, off my chest, and off my thighs. They run over me. They run through me,” said Frederick.
Every dog in the show was adopted by Lawrence. They each have a touching story on how they earned a special place in his heart. “One dog I adopted out of Littleton, Colorado. He was abused and his back left leg was broken in three places. Another dog was a homeless dog at a park in Jacksonville, Florida. It’s the love and the bond that we have between us that’s created through the plastic. It’s a sense of trust and love.”
At sixty-two years-old, Frederick doesn’t plan on retiring anytime soon. “As long as this continues to be fun and my health holds up, hopefully, I will still be out here when I’m 72.”
