Disability Connection hosts ‘I love my Playground’ event to help clean park

Disability Connection held their annual ‘I love my Playground’ event.

For 11 years, people have come together to help keep inclusive playgrounds clean. They work together to spread mulch and clean off playground equipment at Bruce Ladner Memorial Park before settling down for a picnic lunch.

Afterward, everyone was able to enjoy playing just like kids.

This cleaning effort is led by adults with disabilities. Because of them, the playground is ready for another year of accessible play. Disability Connection Executive Director Janie O’Keefe said, “What’s special about this playground is everyone can enjoy it. A lot of times playgrounds are not accessible to wheelchairs, so we’ve made sure there is a playground where they can… there’s a walking track, a bathroom, lots of great equipment. And it’s all ages, all abilities can really take apart in play, which is important. And it’s open all of the time.”

Disability Connection also has an accessible playground in Ocean Springs.
