D’Iberville St. Martin Chamber putting Christmas baskets together

The D’Iberville St. Martin Chamber of Commerce has been hard at work putting together Christmas baskets to help people in need.

Donations from local organizations, businesses, and schools helped fill the baskets. This year, D’Iberville Elementary held a food drive to collect donations.

The boxes are filled with canned goods, pies, bread, and a turkey.

For 40 years, the chamber has made it an annual event to fill baskets and pass them out to those in need. Executive Director Sissy Andrews said, “Really, if you could follow somebody around that is giving out the boxes and see the looks on these families faces when they receive a turkey and a pie and the fixings for a Christmas dinner, it really touches your heart. You want to give everything you have. So, it’s very, very rewarding for us to help other people that are not as fortunate as we are.”

More than 100 Christmas baskets were filled today and will soon be distributed to families.
