D’Iberville-St. Martin Chamber collects food for families in need
The D’Iberville-St. Martin Chamber of Commerce, with the help of several local organizations, collected a variety of food to give out to local families in need.
The chamber collected canned goods, turkeys, rolls, fruits, and more and packed 75 boxes full of the items.
The boxes will then be shipped to different organizations who will bring them to families in need of Christmas dinners.
This drive has been going for the past 40 years and has helped hundreds of families.
Organizations and businesses that helped the chamber collect the goods include the People’s Bank, D’Iberville Business Club, Scarlet Pearl Casino, and more. D’Iberville/ St. Martin Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Sissy Andrews said, “I was so excited when I got up this morning. I said ‘yay we get to put all these baskets together and we get to send it out to needy families who are very deserving.’ So, it always feels good when you help someone. It’s always a great thing to know that you are helping a needy family, especially around the holidays.”
The chamber would also like to give a special thanks to D’Iberville Elementary who had a food drive that is responsible for about 70 percent of the goods for this drive.
