D’Iberville Police Urge Safety This Mardi Gras Weekend

Deputy Chief Clay Jones wants to make sure citizens and visitors attending the North Bay Area Mardi Gras Association Parade have a safe and enjoyable experience.

Visitors should expect road closures in the area of the parade beginning at approximately 12:30 p.m. Citizens not attending the parade should avoid this area.

Deputy Chief Jones gives the following advice to parade goers:

•Park vehicles in secure areas and do not leave valuables in plain sight. Utilize the trunk to store valuables. Do not park vehicles in front of driveways, fire hydrants and other no parking zones.
•Walk in groups and never leave children unattended.
•Establish a post-parade meeting place for family and friends in case you become separated.
•Instruct children on what to do if they become lost and keep a close eye on them.
•If you need police assistance during a parade, go to the nearest intersection and advise a uniformed police officer.
•Pets are prohibited on the parade route.
•Do not throw any object in the direction of floats, band members, or parade participants.
•Materials known as “Silly String” and “Snap & Pops”, along with similar products are prohibited.
•Do not cross the barricades or other crowd restraint devices.
•No underage drinking is allowed. Special police details will be enforcing these laws.
•Please cooperate with all requests from police officers.
