D’Iberville middle schooler drowns in creek

Chief Shannon Nobles announces the tragic drowning of a 13-year-old D’Iberville Middle School student on May 8, 2022 at a local waterway adjacent to Hwy 15 in the area Old Hwy 15 and Dodson Road.

Chief Shannon Nobles said D ’Iberville Police Officers and D’Iberville Fire Department personnel responded to the area of Old Highway 15 and Tuxachanie Creek to a reported possible drowning. Juvenile witnesses on scene said they and the victim were wading in the creek and they lost sight of the victim and the victim failed to resurface.

Local residents who heard the commotion searched the water but were unable to locate the victim, who was later found in the creek by Diberville Police and Fire personnel who rendered immediate aid.

The victim was taken to Merit Health Biloxi by American Medical Response for a higher level of medical attention where he was later pronounced dead by hospital staff.

Although the initial investigation indicates and accidental drowning, this case remains open pending further investigation.
