A D’Iberville man has been charged with aggravated assault in connection with a shooting at a Gulfport bar on Saturday.

Gulfport Police arrested 35-year-old Clarence Thompson III, charging him with two counts of aggravated assault and one count of shooting into an occupied dwelling. He was taken to Harrison County jail and bond was set at $550,000.

Thompson was out on parole for an aggravated assault conviction from Hattiesburg. He served three years with 17 suspended. If convicted, he would serve the remainder of that sentence in addition to the sentence imposed for the new charges.

Police were called to Orangutang’s Daiquiri Bar on Courthouse Road in response to a report of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found two victims both suffering from gunshot wounds. Detectives learned that an argument over a tip had escalated, leading Thompson being escorted out of the bar.

After leaving, he retrieved a rifle from his vehicle and fired multiple rounds before fleeing.

Both victims were taken a local hospital and were listed in stable condition.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact the Gulfport Police Department at 228-868-5959 or Mississippi Coast Crime Stoppers at 877-787-5898.
