D’Iberville High Archery wins state championship

The D’Iberville Warrior Archery Team made history by earning the MSHAA Class 3 Championship with a score of 3336, ending the season undefeated.

The team has been in a rebuilding stage and the hard work paid off. In February, the team won the Cougar Classic Tournament, taking first place out of 10 MHSAA high schools. That was the Warriors first tournament.

In the championship, the archers were led by the top female shooter for the MSHAA Division Julia Pryor with a 289 and top male shooter Landon Garret with a 287. Coach David Barber said, “The kids really seem to love it. They were all jubilant afterwards. Some of them have expressed to me that it really hasn’t set in yet, but I think they will realize it. I had a few ask me when do we practice again. Unfortunately, that’s going to be next year.  I do think that with this state championship being won by the team this year, that what it is going to do is enhance a future participation in the sport at the school.”

The team finished the season undefeated at 16-0.
