D’Iberville graduate goes pro

A local athlete from D’Iberville High School graduated with only one DI offer from the University of South Alabama. Now, he is about to start his career as a professional baseball player.

Dylan Hardy was an outstanding player at the University of South Alabama with a batting average of .331 and 27 RBIs during his junior year. When he got the call from the Boston Red Sox that he had been drafted, it was no surprise. Hardy was drafted in the 13th round as the 400th overall pick and his excitement has not died down. “It’s just an unreal feeling to see all of your hard work pay off and to see that the Boston Red Sox organization thinks enough of me to draft me in the 13th round. It means a lot. I’m excited and I’m looking forward to see what it’s like and proving my game and getting the opportunity to play in the major leagues.”

Hardy says the idea of getting drafted was always in the back of his mind, but he mostly just focused on improving his game and having fun with his team. Hardy tells News 25 that having a family that is so supportive is what helps to push and motivate him. He gives them credit for him getting to this point. “I feel like I have the best support staff in the country with my family. They’re awesome. My mom, my dad, and my brother, of course, they’ve been my rock. Really just helping me get through everything and being there for me.”

Be sure to check out the local athletic star and keep up with his exciting journey.
