D’Iberville first responders give back with Battle of the Badge blood drive
You don’t need a reason to donate blood, but the D’Iberville police and fire departments decided to give you some extra motivation.
The Battle of the Badges is a blood drive hosted in partnership with American Red Cross. Those who donated were able to choose to support either the fire department or the police department.
Though the friendly competition is fun, the event is crucial in adding to the blood supply especially during storm season when blood availability is low. American Red Cross Account Manager Hayden Hoffman said, “I can’t say enough honestly every two seconds someone in America needs blood or platelets. Only about 3% of age eligible people donate annually. So, we constantly need people to go out and donate. I just wanted a way to give back to the first responders and everything they do. So, I thought battle of the badges would be the perfect event.”
Donor Brad Johnson said, “To save lives. Doesn’t cost me anything and the benefits are pretty extraordinary. I’ve been donating since 2020. I went with the fire department”
