D’Iberville Fire Responds to Gas Leak Tues. Morning

Tuesday morning, the D’Iberville Fire Department responded to a gas leak on the corner of Windsor Hills Drive and Popps Ferry Road.

A utility company had cut into a natural gas line. Fortunately, no one was injured and the situation was quickly resolved thanks to the D’Iberville Fire Dept. Each shift, they do random training drills for their rookies, and Tuesday morning’s gas leak call motivated their drill focus for the day.

Brandon Decaire, a senior firefighter with the D’Iberville Fire Dept., says, "Today we have a few new guys who work on our shift and we’ve set up some simulated gas line leaks and we’re going to have them practice plugging the gas lines using the tools we have on the truck. Every shift we do random training. Today we figured it’d be a good idea since we have had the gas leak to go ahead and familiarize ourselves a little better with the equipment."

To prevent future gas leaks, remember to call 811 before you dig. You can find more information at www.call811.com.
